A tribute to Tim Smith songbook 1
In 2008 one of the
best musicians that the majority of music lovers won’t know of suffered a
stroke that still requires him to be cared for to this day. The man in question
is Tim Smith writer for some of the best bands of a progressive nature in
Cardiacs, Sea Nymphs, Oceanlandworld and Spratley’s Japs
As a tribute some of the musicians that were greatly
inspired by Tim’s work have come together for this album to help spread the
work of Tim and help raise funds for his care (all profits made for this record
go directly towards it as well.)
Aside from Steven Wilson, Oceansize and The Magic Numbers there won’t
be many musicians that will be well known but this is the beauty of the record
itself as new musicians have been discovered just by myself listening to this,
notable standouts include Rose Kemp, Ultrasound, mikrokosmos and William D
Drake’s work other than his time in Cardiacs.
This record is one of discovery with the
beautiful and sublime talent included and unlike regular tribute all the musicians
involved show passion and manage to make the covers as wonderful.
This is a record I recommend any self respecting lover of
music to have as a starting point and then I urge you to go out and find Tim
Smith’s discography with the various projects he has been a part of.
