VINTAGE TROUBLE @ The Gibson Rooms (Showcase)
London - 8th February 2011

Doc McGhee… Kiss and all that stuff… Yeah, should be good,
and the attendance for this Vintage Trouble showcase on a
Tuesday evening tells me this wasn’t just my thought. What we were not prepared
for was the change of direction from the legendary rock manager, and most of
all, no one was prepared tonight to such a display of talent, passion and
chemistry.
Vintage Trouble is a four piece taking us all the way back
to the 50s-60s with their intense blend of soul and blues. A singer with
nothing to envy to Marvin Gaye, an incendiary guitar sound and a tight,
relentless rhythm section: a recipe for pure magic. Like a burgundy velvet dress, Vintage Trouble's sound is rich,
sensual, caressing, softly changing shade from every angle.
Frontman Ty’s introductions to the songs are not the only
way to tell that they come straight from the heart, from real life with its ups and downs, from dark and
bright days. These are the songs you want to hear when everything crashes down
to feel better, and when you’re insanely happy to celebrate that amazing thing
that life happens to be sometimes. These are the songs I want to fall in love
to. This is what I want to hear waking up on a sunny Sunday morning, or
listening to the rain outside while cuddling my dog. This is also the music I want
to shake my hips to, and ‘Get It’ the one song I want the DJ to play on my
birthday while my wasted friends throw bubbly around. This is quite simply all that I’ve been
looking for.
Are Vintage Trouble going to be the next big thing? If they’re
not, something is seriously wrong in this industry. I’ve seen quite a series of
more or less pathetic comeback attempts: labels trying to bring back bands, bands
trying to bring back genres, genres trying to bring back bands and labels. Tonight,
I salute the band that is going to bring back Music.
